Dieters - two proven methods to feel full
Two methods to make yourself feel full and yet only eat a little have now been shown to work (New Scientist 28-Aug-10. P12 Article by Jessica Griggs). The first is simply to exercise, the second to drink water before the meal.
One problem with overeating is that it overrides the mechanism whereby the body makes the brain ‘feel full’ Overeating generates excess fatty acids which inflame a region in the hypothalamus (in the brain) and prevent the ‘fullness feeling’ effect. It has now been shown in rats, exercise dramatically increases the levels of proteins which counteract and reverse this effect, allowing the ‘feel full’ mechanisms to function normally
Drinking two glasses of water before a meal gives more effective weight loss in those trying to diet. Perhaps more importantly was the long term effect. One problem with dieting is the maintenance of the weight loss. Many people simply put the weight on again. However, in those who continued the practice of drinking 2 glasses of water before the meal were found to be much more successful at not putting the weight back on.
